YT's summary of Jude
Title for the book of Jude: Open Your Eyes!
Main theme:
There is danger lurking. Ensure your own safety and the safety of your fellow Brothers and Sisters in Christ.
Sub-themes:
Introduction –v1-3
The wolf among the sheep – v. 4
Children of God will still face danger – v.5-7
Godless men with no sense of fear – v.8-10
Godless men’s retribution – v.11-13
Judgement for everyone, including them – v.14-15
Characteristics of godless men again – v.16
Warnings of such people to the children of God – v.17-19
The way children of God should react – v.20-23
God’s providence – v.24-25
Key verse: v.3
Summary statement – It is important that children of God open their eyes to discern good and evil and not be deceived.
Possible Applications
- Discern what we are presented with. By this, it also means practicing our discerning skills and sharpen it continuously (v. 4)
- Not to use God’s grace to sin further (v. 4b)
- Acknowledge that Christ is our God (v. 4b)
- Remember that God can take away what He has given (v. 5)
- The power of evil is real. Beware. (v. 9)
- Have respect for things that we do not understand- humility (v. 10)
- Remember that these people will come . Be wary – discernment (v. 18)
- Depend on God and constantly seek to build ourselves up in our faith and pray (v. 20, 21)
- Save fellow Brothers and Sisters in Christ. We are responsible for one another’s growth (v.22-23)
- Remember our Provider (v. 24-25)
What would I do?
- Read the bible everyday (learn more about what God likes/ dislikes, what God says, What Jesus would do and to know God better so that discernment of doctrines and teachings will grow, and I will know the godly role models to follow amongst the many people I will meet pr have met)
- Quiet Time and an intimate relationship with God (to lead a life of godliness and remember His love and faithfulness to me)
- Constantly seize evil/ sinful thoughts before it is too late, before it takes over the mind, then the body, etc
- Make fellowship with other believers one of my priorities
- Ensure my responsibilities are fulfilled – means of gaining people for God before the end times
- Spur fellow believers to grow in faith
- All in all, to actively seek Him and yearn to have an intimate relationship with Him. (Heb 11:6)
As I churn the last section out, I realise there is so much more I can do to grow closer to God. I hope that this section of "what I should do" will turn into real actions that I take. Indeed, there is so much I shoudl do but am not doing. I pray that God will give me the desire to constantly seek Him and to be thirsty for Him.
That's all for me.
