Jude Summery (DT)

Most of my summery will revolve around the central theme of the godless men in our midst.

Title: Infiltrated!

Key Verse: Vs 4

Outline:
Introduction vs 1-2
The ungodly in our midst vs3-4
Punishment of the disobedient vs5-7
The attitude and actions of the ungodly vs8-13
Prophesy against the ungodly vs 14-16
The reality of their presence vs17 - 19
How should we respond vs 20-23
Utter dependence and praise to God 24-25

Summery:
Know how to identify the godless men in our midst, knowing that judgment awaits them and choosing to live a life of holiness.

Defense:
Identify the Godless men:
vs 4 Change grace into a license for immorality, deny Jesus Christ as Lord.
vs 8 Pollute their bodies, reject authority, slander celestial beings.
vs 10 They speak abusively against what they dont understand
vs 12,13 They care only for themselves, feeding only themselves, bearing no eternal fruit
vs 16 Grumblers, fault finders, follow their own evil desires, boast and flatter others for their advantage
vs 19 They divide people, follow their own natural instinct, do not have the Holy Spirit

The Godless in our midst:
vs 4 They have secretly slipped in among us
vs 12 They eat within our fellowship
vs 18 Their presence was already foretold by the apostles

Judgment waits them:
vs 4 Their condemnation was written about long ago
vs 5-7 The Lord punishes those who do not obey Him, even if they are in the 'right crowd'
vs 11 Woe to them
vs 14,15 The Lord is coming to judge the ungodly

Live a life of holiness:
vs 3 Contend for the faith
vs 20 Build yourself up, pray in the Holy Spirit
vs 21 Keep yourself in God's love. Wait on Him
vs 22-23 Respond to this uprising with mercy, urgency and purity
vs 24-25 Do all this, trusting in God's strength and sovereignty

Application:

I think the main application for me, as probably seen by the rest of my summery, is to be wary of the ungodly men in our midst. Practically, it means i dont just take in everything i hear. Sometimes it means i have to question what ppl say about the bible, and check it out for myself. After all, this is my faith and i alone am accountable for it at the end of the day. This means being even a bit skeptical sometimes, but always resolving it against the word of God. It also means discussing the questions I have with other ppl, rather than having the attitude of "I've been a Christian so long and i should have all the answers by now". In addition to this, having a sound knowledge of Gods word and a close walk with Him so that I am attentive to His Spirit's prompting.

I really like the urgency behind the whole summary. Right from the title I really sense the call to arms that I think was truly the essence and intention of Jude. Nicely done.
